Research and Administrative Assistant Position Available
Mount Ida Press, established in 1985, publishes books on architecture and history and an international journal on historic-preservation technology. We also conduct research on historic structures; recent projects have included the Statue of Liberty, the New York State Capitol, and the Rotunda at the University of Virginia. The research and administrative assistant will work with the president and project manager on a variety of tasks and projects. Administrative tasks will include communicating with clients and authors, filing, keying edits, handling logistical details of manuscripts, preparing email and other correspondence, coordinating advertising and peer review for the journal, indexing, maintaining databases, and handling social media. Historical-research tasks will include searching online library and manuscript databases, occasional work at archives and libraries, and managing research files.
The successful candidate will be resourceful, exceptionally well organized, detail oriented, meticulous, computer savvy, and quick to learn. He or she will be able to switch gears quickly and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
Excellent writing, word-processing, and other communication skills, as well as Internet research experience, are required. The research and administrative assistant must be able to assume responsibility and be comfortable with the stress of deadlines. Professional telephone and email demeanor and the ability to work well with other organizations and consultants are essential.
An academic background in history, architectural or art history, historic preservation, material culture, English, or a related field is preferred. A bachelorís degree and professional work experience are required. Familiarity with publishing, historic preservation, building construction, and using original source materials, such as manuscript collections, would be important additional assets.
This position has regular weekday hours and a benefits package. Salary level will be based upon skills and experience. Applicants seeking part-time employment of 30 hours a week will also be considered.
